STATEMENT OF FAITH

The Bible

The Bible is God’s inspired Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. The Bible is infallible, inerrant, and absolute truth.

(Psalm 12:6; 119:105 & 119:160; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

God

The Bible is God’s inspired Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. The Bible is infallible, inerrant, and absolute truth.
(Genesis 1:1, 1:26-27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Hebrews 9:14)

Jesus

Jesus Christ is God. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to claim His own and take them to Heaven.
(Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5, 14:10-20; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15)

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives in every individual from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

(John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8;  Romans 5:5, 8:26; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18; Titus 3:5-7)

Sin Nature

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are born sinners, and have a sin nature. Disobedience toward God is sin. Sin separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

(Genesis 1:27; Isaiah 53:6a, 59:1-2; Romans 3:23, 5:2, 7:5; Galatians 5:17)

Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ and God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. No other act is required for salvation. When we turn from our self-ruled life to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life. This is evidenced by repentance, confession, believer baptism, and a life committed to His service.

(John 3:16, 14:6, 14:17; Romans 8:17-18, 10:9-10; Galatians 3:26-27; Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5)

Heaven and Hell

People will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or exist eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is eternal death in Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in Heaven. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

(John 14:1-4)

Satan

Satan was originally an angel who attempted to overthrow God in His Heaven. Thus, he was expelled from Heaven by God, along with one-third of the angels.  Satan seeks to deceive the world and keep individuals from forming a relationship with God. Hell was created to eternally punish Satan and for those who do not confess Jesus Christ as their Savior.

(Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:13-18; Matthew 10:28; Revelation 12:1-5, 19:20, 20:13-15)

The Priesthood of Every Believer

“Christ loves us, and by His death He has freed us from our sins and made us a kingdom of priests to serve God,” Revelation 1:6. “You are…the King’s priests, God’s own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God,” 1 Peter 2:9. The Bible teaches that every Christian is called to a lifetime of Christian service, regardless of their vocation. We practice the truth that every believer is a minister by encouraging every member to find a place of service and ministry. Every believer has direct access to God through Bible study, prayer, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Every Christian is to be a disciple developing relational environments in which they share their faith with those around them by word and by action.

The Christian Home

God has given parents the responsibility to bring their children up in the nurture and discipline of the Lord. It is the parents’ responsibility to educate and disciple their children in the truth of God. The church must work to compliment the parents’ efforts and facilitate godly living within the home.

(Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:6-9; Joshua 24:15; Titus 2:1-8)

Ordinances

Jesus instructed His disciples to remember His death and resurrection. He gave the Church two visible symbols (called “ordinances”) as reminders. These two ordinances are baptism and the Lord’s Supper. While we respect all acts of spiritual obedience, the Bible teaches that baptism is to be done, following salvation, as a one-time act of obedience and identification with Jesus Christ as Lord. The Lord’s Supper is an ongoing symbol remembering our Lord’s death, burial, resurrection, and promised return. It is a sacred event for those who have a biblical relationship with Jesus Christ. We do not regard anyone’s participation in these practices as a means of salvation.

(Matthew 26:266-29, 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32; Colossians 2:12 )
